Blog Tour: Blue Haven by Lisa King

I am very excited to be share with everyone my stop on the blog tour for Lisa King’s Blue Haven. Blue Haven is a newer released sci-fi thriller set in a beautiful resort that the characters quickly realize is not the paradise that they imagine. For this post I’ll be sharing a short synopsis then detailing my experience with the book below! I’ll also be linking some sites that you could buy the book from if it interests you!

Welcome to Blue Haven, the world’s most lucrative condo corporation—so exclusive that only five lucky residents live in this lush, tropical paradise, housed in a top-secret location.

Among them is twenty-five-year-old Aloe Malone, an introvert and former waitress who traded bussing tables for lengthy sleep-ins, ocean dips, Michelin-star restaurants, spectacular sunsets, and unlikely new friends—all thanks to a spurious lottery win.

Life’s good.
Damn good.

That is, until Aloe discovers a journal.

Seemingly left by a past resident named Eloise whose entries are both sad and evoking, Aloe quickly suspects there’s more to Blue Haven than meets the eye.

Her suspicions are confirmed when visions arise, gruesome hallucinations she can’t understand, followed by a strange yet familiar man lurking in places he shouldn’t. Something’s wrong. Or maybe it’s all in her head. Regardless, she vows to uncover the truth.

Except someone wants to keep her quiet, and it’s the last person she ever suspected.

If you’re entering the thriller genre (or sci-fi for that matter) this book might be perfect for you! It starts out with some very interesting set-pieces and build this level of dread that pervades the whole book. I had some theories right from the start and they kept me going throughout the book, as even though I guessed correctly part of what was going on from the first pages, there was so much more to the story.

Blue Haven is also compulsively readable, with short, snappy chapters and a smooth writing style plus a ton of cliffhanger chapter endings. I kept reading just to see what was about to happen. Going into this first time sci-fi readers might feel familiar with the early chapters as they didn’t really feel like a standard sci-fi read, but the later chapters go fully into the sci-fi aspects.

If you’re looking for a paradise-but-is-it? style read with elements of psychological thriller, mixed with sci-fi, Blue Haven is one you should be looking into. It’s also quite short, easily read within a day or two, as you’ll be desperate to find out what happens at the end.

I will definitely be picking up further books from this author, as I enjoyed this one. Thank you to Breakeven Books for organizing the blog tour! What’s your favourite Sci-fi Thriller? Leave a comment down below and let’s talk about it! Happy Reading!

Author Bio

Lisa King is a writer, nap enthusiast, and cat lover who believes writing third-person bios should be prohibited (but alas, she’ll persist for the sake of professionalism). By day, she researches mental health, and by night, she sleeps. But during the early morning hours, before life gets too busy, she writes novels and drinks excess coffee. Lisa lives in London, Ontario with her husband, daughter, and wonky-eyed cat. She is the author of one previous novel, Vanishing Hour.
